FIVE TOWNS KIWANIS 39th ANNUAL MARTY MONOGONI GOLF OUTING

The Five Towns Kiwanis is hosting their 39th Annual Marty Mongoni Golf Outing at 10:30 a.m. at Middle Bay Country Club located at 3600 Skillman Avenue in Oceanside. Check-in and brunch will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by the shotgun start at 12:00 p.m., cocktails and dinner at 6:00 p.m., and coffee and desert at 7:00 p.m. The event costs $400.00 for all activities which includes the $325.00 golf fee, a $10.00 putting contest, a $25.00 “Beat the Pro” Challenge, a $10 50/50 cash raffle and $100.00 worth of raffle tickets. BOOK DISCUSSION: THE STREET SWEEPER BY ELLIOT PERLMAN

Blue Door Books located at 501 Central Avenue in Cedarhurst will be hosting a book discussion about the famous book, The Street Sweeper by Elliot Perlman. The Street Sweeper is a book about an African American probationary janitor in a Manhattan hospital and a father of a little girl he can’t locate who strike up an unlikely friendship with an elderly patient who was a Holocaust survivor in Auschwitz. There is a $20 fee to attend and a 20 percent discount for customers who purchase the book for the purpose of attending this discussion. PENINSULA PUBLIC LIBRARY PRESENTS ROBERT SCHUMANN AND JOHANNES BRAHMS

A program of solo and duet piano music, accompanied by commentary, will be presented by Ruth Spencer and Lorraine Fuchs, faculty members of the Music Department at City College of New York at the Peninsula Public Library. Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms stand in the front rank of German composers in the nineteenth century. Brahms is considered to be the “successor” to Beethoven. Schumann, little understood in his lifetime, is now regarded as daringly original in harmony, rhythm and form. The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free. HEWLETT-WOODMERE PUBLIC LIBRARY PRESENTS “FEELIN’ GROOVY”

The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library will have a special performance featuring the best music from the 1960’s and 1970’s by Little Toby Walker at 7:30 pm. Little Toby Walker performed in the library in the 1990’s and is an accomplished, unique, finger-style guitar virtuoso. He is adept at the blues, rags, hot country picking, and coaxes more out of a guitar than can be imagined. District residents and Friends of the Library may pick up tickets now at the library from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are free. Space is limited.
